Notes on the Multiverse

The multiverse is a big place, which contains trillions of inhabitable planets, a whole lot of extra dimensions no one seems to want, and a truly infinite number of "40 Funky Hits" albums. But in all of known reality, there is only one race that has discovered the secret of interuniversal travel: the gods. As always, when some amazing new technology is discovered, it is never used without the utmost caution and responsibility... right?

When the gods visited other universes, they found millions of forms of intelligent life. They also found many levels of reality: the most realistic universes had rigid and logical laws of physics. But in many of the less realistic universes, the laws were more mutable. In his investigations, god scientist Constantine Glomson discovered a stange quality of many of these universes: the thoughts, hopes, and beliefs of intelligent beings could affect the world around them. Moreover, these effects could actually leak over between universes. Soon, they had perfected a clean, cheap source of power based on the energy generated by the religious beliefs of all manner of lifeforms. The energy was small at a 1:1 ratio of time passage, but by using universes in which the speed of time was very great, the effect could be greatly magnified. The discovery revolutionized god society, and created a new industry out of Propheteering...
